Event Rules


  1. The competition is for amateur and students (who do not attend full time vocational dance college) or the majority of their income is from teaching or performance of dance. Aged 7-17 years
  2. The age of the competitor is taken on the day of the competition. If they have a birthday between time of booking and the competition please put correct age.
  3. Southern Dance Class Awards reserve the right to return an entry without assigning a reason.
  4. Southern Dance Class Award may combine certain age classes when entries are small, divide when large and make other rules and regulations as occasions may arise.
  5. The Adjudicator’s decision is final, any communication with the adjudicator concerning any matters of the competition is strictly prohibited.
  6. Competitors must enter and dance in the correct category for their age, Age is taken from the date of the event.
  7. This is a non-smoking venue, including e-cigarettes.
  8. Southern Dance Class Awards comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 & GDPR a copy of our privacy policy is on our website
  9. Any inappropriate or unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated, Southern Dance Class Awards reserve the right to disqualify an entry on these grounds and not refund entrance fees.
  10. Please ensure all mobile phones are turned off so it doesn’t disturb the performance
  11. Strictly no fees will be refunded under any circumstance, an alternative event will be offered if the student is unable to attend due to medical ground if Southern Dance Class Awards are notified in advance & the notice is accompanied by a medical note.
  12. Southern Dance Class Awards does not accept liability for any loss of possessions or valuables.
  13. In the event of a fire please make your way swiftly and sensibly out of one of the fire exits, fire assembly point will be announced the beginning of the day
  14. Competitors must be medically fit to perform. Please inform the organisers if there are any medical conditions we should be made aware of. If first aid is required please ask one of the organisers.

Child Protection

15. Photography, film, video or tape recording is prohibited in the performance hall. We have an official photographer & organisers taking videos. Please advise the festival organiser asap if you do not wish any entries to not be photographed. By entry to this competition competitors and their guardians agree to perform before the cameras of the media or any agent of the competition.
16. All staff and volunteers have been DBS checked and will also adhere to Southern Dance Class Awards Child Protection Policy.
17.  Acknowledgement of reading and complying to safeguarding policies, rules of the festivals must be entered on the entrance form.


18. The Audience must not enter during a class competition or adjudication and at the discretion of the stewards.
19. The Audience is encouraged to show their appreciation of performance through clapping NOT cheering or chanting.

Changing rooms plus additional classrooms provided

20. Competitors and parents are responsible for leaving the premises, especially the changing rooms, clean and tidy at the end of each day. The competition is charged a penalty per half hour for overstaying our agreed time. Please help us to keep our costs down by leaving promptly at the end of each day. Any accidents/spillages must be reported to the organisers to minimise the cost and effort involved in cleaning them up.

Please be aware that due to the current Covid situation as we all know things can change very fast. If needed updates on covid policies will be advised prior to the event.

Should Covid cancel our event everyone will be refunded. However, we cannot refund for individual isolations but can offer a place at a future event.

Your final timetable plus location & specific venue information will be sent 4 weeks prior to the event.
